Instagram is looking to bring back its chronological feed next year | Digit

Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri stated that the company is currently working on brining back the chronological feed.

Tired of looking at the most popular, algorithmically ranked posts on your Instagram news feed? Well, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a change as the company has stated that it will bring back the chronological feed. In a Senate hearing in the US, Adam Moserri stated that Instagram was in the process of working on an option that will give users the ability to switch between a chronological feed instead of an algorithm based one. This could give users a better idea of what their feed looks like instead of Instagram shoving what it wants down your throat.

Facebook has recently done away with the chronological feed and since then it’s been a stagnant mess with no option to view the kind of posts you want. Users are restricted and forced to consume the content that Meta wants them to consume. It’s an insidious tactic that has caused problems such as echo chambers, radicalised youth and much more. If the 2020 US elections are any indication, social media is going to become a more divisive platform than ever. Accusations of mental health issues in teens also came up but really, in the larger scheme of things, it’s the least critical. The scary part about this whole thing is that you, as a user, have no autonomy when it comes to your personal news feeds. Facebook, or Meta, will force-feed you what they think is best for you.

New Instagram features to come in 2022

To say that social media has changed the way we look at the world is selling how powerful these platforms are. They can shape the entire world’s opinion. All you have to do is head on over to a platform like Twitter to experience the worst humanity has to offer. It would be nice if we has a bit of control over what we consume but for now, it’s clear that we’re going to have to live with whatever these companies jam down our throats.
