Instagram has rolled out this new feature, based on the recommendation of teens. “Teens have told us that they sometimes want to take time for themselves and might be looking for more ways to focus at night while studying and during school,” said Meta in its blog post.

Per the company, the Quiet mode can be customised. It can be scheduled and once the feature is turned out, Instagram will show you a quick summary of notifications so you can catch up on what you missed. “Anyone can use Quiet mode, but we’ll prompt teens to do so when they spend a specific amount of time on Instagram late at night,” added Meta.

New ways to manage recommendations, Updated Parental Supervision Tools

Separately, Instagram has updated parental supervision tools and is giving users more control over the content they see on the social networking platform.

Starting with the recommendations, Instagram users will now be able to hide multiple pieces of content in their Explore feed that they aren’t interested in. Furthermore, the platform will avoid showing you content you are not interested in Reels, search, and more. Instagram is also expanding its feature to hide comments and DMs containing specific words to recommended posts. This way if you add a word or list of words, emojis or hashtags in the hide list, Instagram will “no longer recommend content with those words in the caption or the hashtag.” The hidden words can be accessed from the Hidden Words section of Privacy settings.

As for the updated parental supervision tools, parents will receive a notification if their teen updates their Instagram settings, including privacy and account settings. Parents can now also view accounts their teen has blocked. These updates are part of our ongoing work to ensure people have experiences that work for them, and that they have more control over the time they spend online and the types of content they see,” claims Instagram.
