Instagrams: Instagram’s Twitter competitor: A look at its design, working and more – Times of India
At a companywide meeting this week, one of Meta’s top executives gave a sneak peek to its employees of how the standalone app may look and work.During the preview, Meta chief product officerChris Cox called the app as “our response to Twitter” and explained that the upcoming app will use Instagram’s account system to automatically populate a user’s information.
What could be the name of the app?
The app has an internal codename “Project 92,” and its public name could be Threads, The Verge reported citing internal documents.
How will the app work
The standalone app will be based on Instagram and integrate with ActivityPub — an open, decentralised social networking protocol that provides a client/server API for creating, updating and deleting content. The app will reportedly enable users of the new app to take their accounts and followers to other apps that support ActivityPub.
“We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution,” Cox was quoted as saying.
He also noted that the company’s goal for the app was “safety, ease of use, reliability” and making sure that creators have a “stable place to build and grow their audiences.” Reportedly, the reference to Elon Musk’s handling of Twitter was also mentioned.
“We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run,” a top executive told employees.

Citing Cox, the publication said that the company is roping in some celebrities to use the app. These include Oprah and the Dalai Lama.
