iOS 15.6.1: Apple rolls out important update for iPhone users – Times of India

In what could perhaps be one of the last versions of iOS 15, Apple has rolled out a new update for iPhones. It is widely expected that Apple will roll out iOS — the next big software update for iPhone — sometime in September. So it has to be a rather important update for Apple to roll out, which is precisely the case with the latest one.
iOS 15.6.1 brings important security updates for iPhone users. Apple also mentioned on it support page that it “is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.” This means that users are urged to update their iPhones immediately.

What are the security vulnerabilities Apple has fixed?

On its support page, Apple mentions that the update is available for all users of iPhone 6s and later models. This means that the vulnerability could have affected anyone using the previous versions of iOS 15.
Apple noted that the first security vulnerability would have meant that “any application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.” The second was related to WebKit, which is the browser engine that powers Safari, Chrome, and other web browsers. Apple also said that these security vulnerabilities were flagged by anonymous security researchers.

How to update your iPhone to the latest iOS version?

You need to follow these steps to get the latest iOS version:

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
