iPhone 14 series will be sold in Russia despite Apple not selling them, here’s how – Times of India

Apple fans in Russia will be able to buy the latest iPhone 14 series despite the company stopping sales in the country. Apple pulled out of Russia in March this year following the Russia-Ukraine war that started on February 24.
While Apple is not going to ship iPhones 14 series to Russia itself, potential customers in the country still have the chance to buy the newest iPhones, thanks to Moscow’s parallel import scheme. A senior government official confirmed that the iPhone 14 series would be covered by this programme. According to a report in news agency Reuters, trade and industry minister Denis Manturov said, “Why not?” If consumers want to buy these phones, yes. There will be the opportunity.”

Russia announced the scheme earlier this year when it authorised retailers to import products from abroad without the trademark owner’s permission, which in this case is Apple. Though Apple stopped its sales in Russia in March. iPhones, MacBooks and other Apple goods have reportedly remained available in Russian stores as retailers sell their remaining stock of old models and get hold of newly released devices through the import scheme.
What is the import scheme
In late March, Russia authorised retailers to import products from abroad without the trademark owner’s permission. “This approach will guarantee the shipment of goods to our country, … in spite of the unfriendly actions of foreign politicians,” Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin had said in a televised address while announcing the scheme. The goods that can be imported to Russia under this scheme is determined by the ministry of industry and trade.

The Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS), which had prepared draft regulations on parallel imports, said the measure “will develop competition between brands through an increase in the number of businesses that import goods to Russia, which will lead to a decrease in retail prices for these goods”.
