iPhone and iPad users, here’s why you may not get a major software update this year – Times of India

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to enter the AR/VR market with the development of a mixed-reality headset called “Reality Pro.” Gurman describes it as the “hot new introduction for this year,” and reports that Apple has dedicated a significant amount of resources to the project, potentially hurting other projects.
According to Gurman, Apple is placing a lot of emphasis on the launch of its first mixed-reality headset. To ensure its success, the company has diverted its workforce and resources from other departments to the team working on the headset.
Apple has reportedly shifted the software development team that works on the operating system for iPhones, iPads, and Macs to focus on the xrOS, the operating system for the mixed-reality headset. As a result, teams working on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS have been redirected to work on the xrOS.
No big iOS, iPadOS and macOS features this year
According to Gurman, Apple’s focus on the mixed-reality headset may have resulted in the delay or disposal of a few features that were originally planned to come with the upcoming updates for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. So, the iOS 17, iPadOS, and macOS 14 may not be as huge updates compared to last year’s software update.

Other hardware suffers from Apple’s upcoming headset
Apple’s push for the development of its mixed-reality headset has also disrupted the progress of hardware projects. As a result, there may be fewer significant updates to Apple products this year.
iPhones and Macs are expected to receive some upgrades, including dynamic island and USB-C ports for the four iPhones and titanium frames for the “Pro” models.
New MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Ultra, a 15-inch MacBook Air, and a potential M2 Ultra-powered Mac Pro might also launch in 2023. Although, no new models of AirPods or iMacs are expected to be released this year, and Apple Watches and HomePods may only receive minor updates.
