iPhone users may have to pay more for Twitter Blue, verified accounts – Times of India

Musk has been extremely vocal about how $8 is what people will have to pay for getting a verified accounts, Blue Verified and some other features. Now, a report from The Information suggests that Verified Blue on iOS will cost $11 and not $8. Good that the t-shirts weren’t made ‘official’, eh?


Why Twitter Blue may cost more

The so-called Apple tax. Apple charges a 30% commission from developers for renewable subscriptions — something which Twitter will have to pay. To offset that cost, it looks like Musk and Twitter may charge iPhone users more than the advertised $8 for Verified Blue.The report also says that for web, the subscription charge will be $7 as then Twitter will not have to pay Apple any commission.
What’s interesting is that the report only mentions about Twitter Blue or Verified Blue costing more on iOS. Google also charges developers the same 30% of commission, which Twitter will have to pay.
One of the biggest claims Musk has made since buying Twitter is that he wants to make it an everything app and wants users to pay for almost everything. Musk and Twitter will have to pay the 30% to Apple. that will be a substantial amount to pay to Apple and Google. That’s why the threat of going to war with Apple.
The so-called ‘war’ between Apple and Elon Musk turned out to be nothing but a damp squib. Musk, late last month, met with Apple CEO Tim Cook and said that he had a “good conversation” and that it was a misunderstanding. Musk had said that Apple had “threatened” to remove Twitter from the App Store. He also said that Apple had completely stopped advertising on Twitter — something that was debunked by a market research firm. A US-based market research firm had revealed that Apple never stopped advertising on Twitter and remains one of the biggest advertisers on the platform.
