IPL 2022 Auction: Baby AB Dewald Brevis, India U19 captain Yash Dhull among shortlisted players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the full list of 590 shortlisted players who will go under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. While there are as many as 102 players in the top 3 price brackets, including 10 in the marquee list, there will be an attraction for teenage stars who are currently making a mark in the U19 World Cup in the West Indies.

Among them is South Africa’s Dewald Brevis who is making a mark at the U19 World Cup and domestic tournaments back in his country. Nicknamed the “Baby AB”, Brevis’s batting style resembles that of legendary AB de Villiers.

Dewald Brevis is part of the 590-player shortlist and will be up for grabs at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Brevis had been in superb form in the U19 World Cup, hitting 368 runs in just 5 matches — a tally that includes a hundred and 3 fifties. The 18-year-old has looked a cut above the rest and is making waves with a style that is quite similar to de Villiers, who is not part of the IPL 2022 Auction after announcing retirement from all forms of the game last year.

It remains to be seen if franchises will be willing to take the punt on Brevis, considering they have only 8 overseas slots to fill at the auction.

YASH DHULL, RAJVARDHAN AMONG SHORTLISTED PLAYERS

Meanwhile, India U19 team captain Yash Dhull is also part of the IPL 2022 Auction shortlist at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. The elegant righ-handed batter has played only 2 matches due to Covid-19 issues at the World Cup but he has shown signs of brilliance.

Young bowler Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who has made a mark for India U-19 team with his all-round ability, is available for Rs 30 lakh at the auction.

Speaking about Hangargekar, India off-spinner R Ashwin, who is part of the marquee list, said teams will be keeping an eye on the young all-rounder, who bowls medium pace.

“He is a right-arm medium-pacer, who can bowl the inswinger very well. Ishant Sharma is the only one who has the gift among present Indian right-arm pacers. Inswing can usually tuck in batters, which is why I feel he will be in demand,” Ashwin said in his YouTube channel.

“He is also a strong lower middle-order hitter. The power he generates when he hits the ball is incredible. He should attract at least 5-10 bids. Make sure to watch him out.”
