IPL 2022: Didn’t need extra motivation, says Delhi Capitals’ David Warner after match-winning knock against his former team Sunrisers Hyderabad | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: After a match-winning knock of 92 not out against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, Delhi Capitals’ opener David Warner said that he did not need any added motivation for the game.
Warner’s 58-ball effort against Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium here included 12 fours and three sixes. Thanks to his innings, Delhi scored 207 runs for three wickets. Warner’s stay at the crease also included an unbeaten 122-run stand with Rovman Powell (67 not out).
Warner played a destructive knock against his former franchise, who had sacked him midway through the last season over his poor form.

“I didn’t need extra motivation (playing against SRH). We have seen what’s happened before in the past. It was good to get the win on the board. It was a little bit silly of me to try and run fast (while batting with Powell). He hit some clean (shots) … they go a long way. And even Livo (Liam Livingstone) the other day – 117 metres (six). These guys are clearing these fences like anything,” said Warner at the post-match presentation.
Claiming that it was a good wicket to bat on, Warner said that the humidity was taking a lot out of him.
“It was a really nice wicket, I’ve had some success here. I knew if I played my strokes, it was going to come off. (It’s) Challenging here in Mumbai with the humidity and I was cooked there towards the back end; I am getting older … I was glad he (Powell) was at the other end,” he added.

Speaking about the wicket, Warner said that it was good for batting and anything around 200 would have been par. He allowed Powell to have strike throughout the final over, despite having the opportunity to complete a century.
The Australian also talked about the innovative shot he played against Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the first ball of the penultimate over of DC innings.
“I thought he (Bhuvneshwar) was going to bowl a yorker, it was wider … I actually saw Jos (Buttler) play one (such shot) recently, so I practised that in the nets … I premeditated to try and reverse it, but when it was bowled there (full and wide), I just tried to back-cut it and it came off,” said Warner.

Coming to the match, chasing a huge target of 208 runs, Hyderabad could score 186 in 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets. For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed took three wickets while Shardul Thakur bagged a brace .
Both teams have played 10 games now and have 10 points each. The Rishabh Pant-led DC have moved up to fifth on the points table, as they have better net run-rate in comparison to SRH, who are sixth.
