IPL 2022: Mitchell Marsh hospitalised, total 4 Covid positive cases in Delhi Capitals camp | Cricket News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Capitals have been stung by multiple Covid-19 cases. On Monday, it emerged that Mitchell Marsh, team doctor Abhijit Salvi and another member of the support staff returned positive three days after physio Patrick Farhart tested positive.
The alarm bells went off when Marsh’s rapid antigen test returned positive in the morning. Marsh had developed symptoms and mild fever. However, the first RT-PCR tests returned negative in the afternoon.
The RT-PCR tests were conducted at frequent intervals throughout the day. In the evening, the aforementioned three people returned positive. Marsh has been taken to hospital because he has shown symptoms but the rest are all asymptomatic. All the members of the team are confined to their rooms, waiting for the test results on Tuesday morning.
Capitals play their next match on Wednesday. As of now, there’s no threat to the match. It’s likely to go on as per schedule.
“For a match to go on as per schedule, a franchise must have 12 players available including seven Indians. If 12 aren’t available, then the IPL technical committee will take a call,” an IPL source told TOI.
One must note that the BCCI, in its SOP for the domestic season, had mentioned that availability of nine players was good enough for the matches to go on as scheduled. Even the International Cricket Council followed the same protocol for the recently-concluded women’s World Cup.
“Chances of matches getting called off are negligible. Every tournament around the world is played with Covid cases around. Anyway, each IPL team has 20-23 players in their camp. They should have enough players available,” a BCCI official told TOI on Monday evening.
