IPL 2023 Final: Gujarat Titans to be declared champions if match is washed off on Monday | Cricket News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: Nature had the last word as the final of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was postponed for the first time in its history to a Monday after incessant rains ensured no cricketing action on Sunday.
A scroll on the screen on the ground read, “IPL final has been moved to the reserve day @7. 30 pm, 29th May.”
The scroll further read, “Physical tickets for today will be valid tomorrow. Request you to keep the tickets safe and intact.”

The match officials took the decision after consulting the head coaches – Ashish Nehra (GT) and Stephen Fleming (CSK). The officials had an interaction with the groundsmen before consulting the head coaches.

Showers are forecast for Monday too. If the match is washed off on Monday also, the Titans would be declared the champions as they were placed above the CSK in the league table.
The summit clash had an anti-climatic beginning to it with unseasonal rainfall hitting the city just before the closing ceremony was about to begin at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

On Saturday, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted thunderstorms accompanied with rainfall, but at the same time it had said the maximum temperature in the day would reach 42 degrees Celsius.
A sunny afternoon, however, gave way to rain and thunderstorm lashing the city on Sunday evening. Data received from the state emergency operation centre in Gandhinagar, the state capital, stated that Ahmedabad city received 41mm rainfall in two hours between 6 pm and 8 pm, the second highest in Gujarat.
