IPL 2023: I’m not thinking about selection in the Indian team, says Rinku Singh | Cricket News – Times of India
Rinku’s journey in the IPL has seen significant improvement this year. In the first four years of his IPL career, he scored 251 runs but did not manage to achieve a half-century. However, in the current season, playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the 25-year-old has already accumulated 474 runs, including four half-centuries.

Lucknow Super Giants beat Kolkata Knight Riders to enter IPL play-offs
His batting heroics have certainly made an impact in the league and have contributed to his team’s success. While his performances may catch the attention of national selectors, Rinku Singh remains focused on his current role and is not actively contemplating national team selection at this time.
Rinku has undoubtedly showcased his power-hitting abilities and ability to deliver under pressure in the IPL. He gained significant attention last month when he hit five sixes in an over to chase down a challenging target set by the Gujarat Titans, with his team needing 29 runs for victory.
In Kolkata’s final game, Rinku once again came close to replicating his heroics. This time, they required 21 runs in the last over against the Lucknow Super Giants. However, despite his valiant effort, Rinku fell just one run short of the target, finishing with an impressive unbeaten knock of 67 runs off 33 balls.
These performances highlight Rinku’s ability to thrive in high-pressure situations and make a significant impact for his team. His power-hitting skills and ability to score quick runs have made him a valuable asset for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
“It feels really good when you have this kind of season but I’m not thinking about selection for the Indian team. I will go home, stick to my routine and continue to practice,” the uncapped Rinku told reporters.
“The name and fame will be there, but I’ll just stick to my work… My family members are very happy. A lot of things have worked well.
“After I hit those five sixes I started getting a lot of respect from the people and now a lot of people recognise me. So it feels good.”
For twice champions Kolkata, Rinku was the bright spark in a season where they failed to clinch a playoff spot for a second straight year.
“I think it feels like all 14 matches I’ve spoken about Rinku. I am personally very happy for him, the way the season has gone for him,” KKR skipper Nitish Rana said.
“He’s quite close to me and I know how much hard work he has done. I don’t really have words to describe him because the entire country knows what he has done.
“If he can bat in situations like these, he can do anything.”
