IPL 2023 Stat Attack: Record 31 200-plus totals, 13 400-plus match aggregates | Cricket News – Times of India

Did you know that there have been as many as 31 200 plus totals (including those by chansing teams) registered in this edition of the IPL? This is an all-time IPL record that is not going to be broken in a hurry. And there are still 7 league games left to play, so this number could only go up.
A number of statistical records have been shattered this IPL season.

# Seventeen wickets bagged by speedsters conceding 214 runs at 12.58 runs apiece at an economy rate of 7.9 in 27 overs in the fixture between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad on May 15 is an IPL record. The spinners bowled 13 overs conceding 123 runs at an economy rate of 9.5 without capturing a single wicket.

# Mohammed Shami has captured 15 wickets (ave 15.86) in thirteen innings in the powerplay – the most by any bowler in this IPL. Just two bowlers have claimed more wickets in an IPL season in the powerplay – 16 wickets at 14.75 in seventeen innings by Mitchell Johnson in 2013 and Trent Boult at 15.12 in fifteen innings in 2020.
# With 21 wickets at 18.66 runs apiece in thirteen matches in this IPL, Yuzvendra Chahal became the first bowler to bag 20 wickets or more in an IPL season five times. He had previously accomplished the feat in 2015 (23), 2016 (21), 2020 (21) and 2022 (27). Lasith Malinga had achieved the distinction 4 times – in 2011 (28), 2012 (22), 2013 (20) & 2015 (24).
# Rajasthan Royals (59) have suffered their biggest defeat in terms of runs in the history of the IPL, losing by 112 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (171/5) at Jaipur on March 14. It remains the lowest total by any team in this IPL.

# Royal Challengers Bangalore have won four matches by 100 runs or more – the first team to accomplish the feat in the IPL. Their previous three wins were recorded at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru – by 144 runs vs Gujarat Lions on May 14, 2016; by 138 runs vs Punjab Kings on May 6, 2015 and by 130 runs vs Pune Warriors on April 23, 2013.

# Kolkata’s Rinku Singh has been in splendid form in this IPL, amassing 407 runs (ave 50.87), including three fifties, in thirteen innings at a strike rate of 143.30 -the most by a Kolkata batter. No other KKR batsman is averaging even 35.
# Rinku is just the fifth batter to manage 400-plus runs while batting at number five or lower in an IPL season, joining Dinesh Karthik (2018), David Miller (2022), Kieron Pollard (2013) and Andre Russell (2019).
# Rinku hit 25 sixes – the most by a KKR batter in this IPL. His tally includes eighteen sixes while chasing – the most by any batter in the present competition.
# Rajasthan Royals had faced 10.3 overs while being dismissed for 59 – the second shortest all-out innings after RCB’s 9.4 overs while scoring 49 vs Kolkata at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 23, 2017.
# Royal Challengers Bangalore have claimed 30 wickets so far in the powerplay – the most by a team in this IPL. This is their best performance in the history of the IPL.

# Faf du Plessis has taken 121 innings to race to 4,000 runs – the fourth quickest to this milestone in the IPL – the three quickest being Lokesh Rahul (105), Chris Gayle (112) and David Warner (114). Virat Kohli had taken 128 innings and AB de Villiers (131) – they are fifth and sixth fastest in the IPL.
# Faf du Plessis has scored 631 runs at an average of 57.36, including seven fifties, in twelve innings at a strike rate of 154.27 to become the first batter to score 600-plus runs in IPL 2023.
# du Plessis has registered seven fifties – the most by any batter in this edition of the IPL. The said performance is also his best, bettering the six in sixteen innings registered in 2021.
# Mumbai Indians have recorded their fifth score of 200-plus in this competition – the first team to accomplish the feat in an IPL season. Chennai Super Kings (2018, 2022 & 2023), Punjab Kings (2014 & 2023), Kolkata Knight Riders (2019 & 2023), Royal Challengers Bangalore (2016), Rajasthan Royals (2023) have registered four totals of 200-plus in a season.
# Rashid Khan’s unbeaten 79 off 32 balls vs Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 12 is the highest by a number eight batter or below in the history of the IPL.
# Rashid Khan (79 not out + 4/30) has become the third all-rounder to record a 75-plus and produce a four-wicket haul in an IPL match, joining Yuvraj Singh (83 + 4/35 vs Rajasthan at Bengaluru on May 11, 2014) and Paul Valthaty (75 + 4/29 vs Deccan Chargers at Hyderabad on april 16, 2011).

# Rashid Khan hit ten sixes in his aforesaid innings – the most by any batter in an innings in this IPL. His sixes’ tally is also the most by any batter at number eight or below in Twenty20 cricket.
# Mumbai Indians’ total of 218 for five – their best ever in this IPL – is the highest by any team against Gujarat Titans in the IPL, outstripping the 207 for seven by KKR at Ahmedabad on April 9, 2023.
# Mumbai Indians have become the first team to register five totals of 200-plus in an IPL season – twice vs Punjab & one each vs Rajasthan Royals, Bangalore and Gujarat Titans.
# Four out of five 200-plus totals in successful chases accomplished by Mumbai Indians is a record for any team in an IPL season.
# Another IPL record set by Mumbai Indians is their three chases in succession – 214 for 4 vs Rajasthan (212/7) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 30; 216 for four vs Punjab (214/3) at Mohali on May 3 and 200 for four vs RCB (199/6) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 9.

# Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning unbeaten knock of 103 off 49 balls vs Gujarat Titans at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 12 is his highest score in the IPL – his maiden hundred – his fourth in Twenty20 cricket. His previous highest in IPL was 83 vs RCB at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 9, 2023.
# Yadav is the first batter to post a hundred vs Gujarat Titans in the IPL. The previous best against them was 92 by Ruturaj Gaikwad for Chennai at Ahmedabad on March 31, 2023.
# Sunrisers’ Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5/30) & Gujarat’s Mohammed Shami (4/21) and Mohit Sharma (4/28) at Ahmedabad on May 15 have provided the first instance of three bowlers taking four or more wickets in an IPL game.
# Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5/30) produced his second five-wicket haul in the IPL – his best being 5 for 19 vs Punjab at Hyderabad on April 17, 2017. He is the first Sunrisers bowler to bag two five-wicket hauls in the IPL. Just two other bowlers – Rajasthan’s James Faulkner and RCB’s Jaydev Unadkat have recorded two five-wicket hauls in the history of the IPL.
# A record of most 200-plus totals has been established in this IPL – 31. The same is not likely to be surpassed easily. The tally includes seven totals while chasing successfully – another IPL record – three times by Mumbai Indians, one each by Kolkata, Lucknow, Punjab and Sunrisers.
# Eleven matches in this edition have witnessed totals of 200-plus from both the teams in the same match – an all-time record in the IPL, outstripping the five in 2022.

# Thirteen times in this edition, a match aggregate of 400-plus has been witnessed -another first in the history of the IPL. Three times at Mumbai (WS), twice each at Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata & Mohali and once at Jaipur.
# Before the commencement of the May 17 game between PBKS and DC, the top five run-getters in this IPL are – Faf du Plessis (631), Shubman Gill (576), Yashasvi Jaiswal (575), Devon Conway (498) and Suryakumar Yadav (486).

# A century and a five-wicket haul in the same IPL game has been recorded for the second time in the history of the IPL – the first instance being Jos Buttler (103) and Yuzvendra Chahal (5/40) – Rajasthan vs KKR at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on April 18, 2022.
# Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan shared a partnership of 147 for the second wicket -Gujarat Titans’ highest stand for any wicket in the IPL, obliterating the 142 for the first wicket between Gill and Wriddhiman Saha vs Lucknow Super Giants at Ahmedabad on May 7, 2023
# 78.19% of runs recorded by the second wicket pair (147) in a total of 188 – the highest by one century stand where all players have batted in a Twenty20 innings.
# Shubman Gill (101 off 58 balls) posted his maiden hundred in the IPL, eclipsing the 96 vs Punjab Kings at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on April 8, 2022. The said innings is his third century in Twenty20 cricket.

# Run-aggregate of 576 at an average of 48.00 including a hundred and four fifties, in thirteen innings registered by Shubman Gill, providing the first instance when he has amassed 500-plus runs in an IPL season, outstripping the 483 (ave 34.50) in sixteen innings in 2022. His tally is a record by any Gujarat player in an IPL season.
# Gill, with an aggregate of 1059 at an average of 40.73, including a hundred and eight fifties, in 29 innings, has become the first Gujarat batter to amass 1000-plus runs in the IPL.
