NEW DELHI: Week 1 of IPL 2023 saw 9 matches being played. The race to finish as the table topper this season is well and truly on, especially after KKR humbled RCB, who were looking like a well balanced team after their big win vs MI.

# Kolkata Knight Riders’ 81-run triumph vs RCB at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 6, is the biggest by any team in terms of runs in this edition of the IPL so far.

# Royal Challengers Bangalore’s eight-wicket triumph over Mumbai in Bengaluru on April 2 is the biggest by any team in terms of wickets in this edition of the IPL so far.
#Shardul Thakur played a career-best knock of 68 off 29 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 6, 2023 – an innings embellished with nine fours and three sixes.

# Thakur’s splendid knock is the joint second-highest individual score while batting at number seven or below in the IPL. In the 2018 season, Chennai’s number seven batsman, Dwayne Bravo had managed 68 off 30 balls, with the help of three fours and seven sixes, vs Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 7, 2018.
# Kolkata’s Dwayne Bravo, number seven batter, had registered an unbeaten 88 off 36 balls vs Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, Chennai on April 10, 2018 – the highest by a number seven batter or below in the IPL.
# Thakur’s strike rate of 234.48, during his aforesaid innings, is the highest by any batter in an innings of 65-plus.
# Lucknow Super Giants’ Mark Wood remains the only bowler to produce a five-wicket haul in this IPL so far – 5 for 14 vs Delhi Capitals at Lucknow on April 1, 2023.

# Mark Wood, with 8 wickets at 7.87 runs apiece in two matches, is still the leading wicket-taker in this IPL so far.
# Varun Chakravarthy (4/15) has recorded his best bowling performance vs RCB in the IPL – his second best ever behind the 5 for 20 vs Delhi at Abu Dhabi on October 24, 2020.
# Suyash Sharma (3/30) has produced a brilliant performance for RCB vs KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. His figures are the second best by a spinner on IPL debut behind the 3 for 23 by Mayank Markande for Mumbai Indians vs Chennai at Wankhede Stadium on April 7, 2018.

# Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with his superb innings of 57 off 44 balls, including three sixes, for Kolkata vs Bangalore at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, has become the first Afghanistan batter to post a fifty in the history of the IPL.
# Thakur raced to his first ever fifty in Twenty20 cricket off 20 balls – the quickest by an Indian batter in this IPL. Rajasthan’s Jos Buttler had also recorded a 20-ball fifty against Sunrisers at Hyderabad on April 2.
# Varun Chakravarthy (4/15), Suyash Sharma (3/30) and Sunil Narine (2/16) have provided the first instance of spinners taking nine wickets in an IPL innings, surpassing three instances of eight wickets in an innings – all for Chennai Super Kings – one each against Deccan Chargers at Visakhapatnam on April 7, 2012; against RCB at Chepauk on March 23, 2019 and against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk on May 1, 2019.
# Nathan Ellis (4/30) has produced his fifth four-wicket haul in Twenty20 – his first in the IPL.
# Yuzvendra Chahal’s wicket-aggregate at an average of 21.58 in 133 matches is now the second highest tally in the IPL, bettering Lasith Malinga’s tally of 170 at 19.79 in 122 matches. Just one bowler has bagged more wickets than Chahal – 183 (ave 23.82) in 161 matches – Dwayne Bravo.
# With two hundreds and 48 fifties, Shikhar Dhawan is now the third batter after David Warner (60) and Virat Kohli (50) to manage 50 innings of fifty-plus or more in the IPL.

# Shikhar Dhawan has managed 662 runs at an average of 33.10, including seven fifties, in 23 innings, which is a record by any batter against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, obliterating the 652 (ave 46.57) in 20 innings by AB de Villiers. Dhawan’s unbeaten innings is his highest score vs Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
# Chennai’s Ruturaj Gaikwad, with 149 runs at an average of 74.50, including two fifties, in two innings, is the top run-getter in this IPL edition so far.
# Gaikwad’s tally of 13 sixes (apart from seven fours) is the highest by any batter in this iPL
# Lucknow Super Giants recorded 80 runs (80/1) in the power play for the first time in the IPL.
# Lucknow’s Kyle Mayers has recorded back to back fifties in the IPL – 73 vs Delhi at Lucknow on April 1 and 53 vs Chennai at Chennai on April 3 – the first player to accomplish the feat at the start of his IPL career.
# Mayers’ 21-ball fifty, during his innings of 53 off 22 balls at Chennai on April 3 is the third quickest in this IPL.
# Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit two sixes off the first two balls he faced before getting out on the next ball vs Lucknow Super Giants at Chennai on April 3. He became the first player to accomplish the feat in the history of the IPL.
# Chennai Super Kings have registered their highest ever power play score (79/0) at Chepauk, Chennai in the IPL, outstripping the 75 for one vs KKR on April 10, 2018.
# Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis shared a partnership of 148 for the first wicket for RCB vs Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru on April 2 – the highest by any pair in this IPL so far.

# The above partnership is the highest for RCB for any wicket in a successful chase against Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
# For the first time in the history of the IPL, two eleven-ball overs were bowled – both in this edition – Chennai’s Tushar Deshpande vs Lucknow at Chennai on April 3 and RCB’s Mohammed Siraj vs Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru on April 2.
# Rajasthan’s Yashasvi Jaiswal (54), Jos Buttler (54) and Sanju Samson (55) have provided the fourth instance of the top three batters posting fifty-plus in an IPL innings – vs Sunrisers Hyderabad at Hyderabad on April 2.
