Ja Morant’s mother won’t attend Game 5 of Grizzlies-Jazz series in Utah: ‘Her anxiety couldn’t take it’

Jazz owner Ryan Smith is trying to make things right for Ja Morant’s friends and family.

After supporters of the Grizzlies’ star had vulgar, racist comments hurled at them in Game 2 of Utah’s series vs. Memphis, Smith has offered the group complimentary court-side seats for Game 5 of the series. The team will also provide lodging and car service for Morant’s group.

And the gesture is certainly appreciated by the Morant family.

“It was a nice gesture from the Jazz,” Tee Morant said, per ESPN. “It was unfortunate. It was just a few fans — most of them were great and cheering right alongside with us.”

Though Tee Morant plans to attend the game, Ja Morant’s mother Jamie won’t be among the party in attendance.

“She said her anxiety couldn’t take it,” Tee Morant said.

That’s certainly understandable considering the inappropriate taunts that came her way during Game 2.

As Tee Morant previously outlined, one Jazz fan yelled a sexually explicit remark toward Jamie Morant, and another told him, “I’ll put a nickel in your back and watch you dance, boy.” The third fan yelled at Jamie, “Shut the f— up, b—.”

“I know heckling,” Tee Morant said of the incident in Game 2. “We were doing that the whole game. But that’s different than heckling. That’s straight up disrespectful. That was too far out of line. You don’t say nothing like that heckling. That’s beyond heckling.”
