Jack Grealish makes Liverpool dig after Man City Champions League glory

Grealish played the full 90 minutes at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium as City pipped Inter 1-0 to win the Champions League. Rodri’s second-half winner decided a tight game, with Pep Guardiola getting his hands on the trophy for the first time in 12 years.

Although it was hardly a vintage display from Grealish, he still found time to poke fun at rivals Liverpool after the game. Posing for an Instagram picture with popular kitman Brandon Ashton, the 27-year-old added the caption: “Weekend in paradise my friend? Let’s f****n avvvvv it.”

The lyrics included by Grealish were no accident, with Webster’s ‘Weekend in Paradise’ seemingly quoted in an effort to get back at Liverpool, who have enjoyed greater European success than City in years gone by.

Webster is a cult hero among Liverpool fans, and he performed in front of thousands in Madrid ahead of the 2019 Champions League final. He is also notable for taking shots at City in the past over their failure to prevail in Europe.

Saturday’s win over Inter capped off a superb second season for Grealish at the Etihad Stadium, having struggled to live up to his monstrous £100million billing in 2021/22.

“I was awful today but I don’t care, to win the treble, this group of players and staff are so special. Anyone that knows me knows how much of a family person I am and how much I love football and is what I work for my whole life.

“You think back to all the people that have helped you along the way, seeing my family makes me emotional. I just said to [Guardiola] I want to thank you because you made this happen, he put so much faith in me, buying me for a lot of money even last year when I was playing c**p, then this year giving me that platform to go and perform.”
