James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies showcased a group of misfit aliens and humans, who banded together to face universal threats like Ronan the Accuser, Ego and even Thanos as well.
In the movies, the main squad featured a single human in Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. However, in the comics, the team featured two humans, as Drax the Destroyer was once an Earthling, who went by the name Arthur Douglas. The character has had a tragic past, as his family was killed by none other than Thanos. In the end, Douglas became Drax the Destroyer after his body was overtook by the being Kronos, which helped him gain improved strength, flying abilities and more.

Drax’s origin was one of the bigger changes that director James Gunn made, when he directed the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie back in 2014, and after almost 8 years, he recently revealed why he made such a tweak for the character from the comics.
Gunn replied to the burning question that many fans had, when he responded to one of the queries a fan had on Twitter. The Suicide Squad director mentioned that he didn’t want to create a movie featuring multiple humans in a plot that revolved around a misfit of characters set in space. In the end, he stated that he wanted the franchise to feel like a story involving outcasts, orphans, which is why Peter Quill was the only major human in the story.
While fans can argue whether or not Drax should be an alien, the fandom 100% agrees on the fact that actor Dave Bautista played the character to perfection, and fans can’t wait to see him again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
