James Gunn Promises Doom Patrol Season 4, Part 2 Will Be Released

James Gunn has confirmed Doom Patrol’s final episodes are on the way, even though Season 4, Part 2 does not have a release date yet.

Some fans have expressed concerns over the fate of Doom Patrol amid past cancellations of high-profile DC projects and the mass exodus of content from Max. However, Gunn has promised the show’s remaining episodes have not been shelved and will be available to stream at some point in the future.

“Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public,” Gunn posted on Threads.

The DC series follows a group of people who all “suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured”. Described as “part support group, part Super Hero team”, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.

The first part of the fourth season premiered on Max in December last year, with a new episode released weekly until January 5. Shortly after the series took a mid-season break, news broke that Doom Patrol’s fourth season would be its final season, meaning the six episodes coming in Part 2 will conclude the series.

The announcement came as Warner Bros. Discovery took several drastic cost-cutting measures, including axing Batgirl altogether. DC’s film and television slate was also re-examined under the new leadership of Gunn and Peter Safran, though Gunn confirmed the decision to end Doom Patrol preceded their appointments.

While Doom Patrol’s cancellation caught many fans off guard, there is every chance it could influence what is coming next in Gunn and Safran’s new, revamped DCU. After all, the pair are working on an eight-to-10-year plan involving various DC characters, with actors signing decade-long deals for movie and TV appearances.
