James Gunn Teases a DC x Marvel Crossover

DC Universe co-head James Gunn has stated that he doesn’t rule out his universe ever crossing over with archrivals in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Gunn is one of the artists to have worked with Marvel and DC. While the popular director will soon be ending his MCU run with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn will also begin work on his new universe with its first project, Superman: Legacy. Prior to that, the director already made The Suicide Squad, as part of the DCEU.

While the MCU and DCU have remained on opposite sides, Gunn doesn’t say no to the idea of the two combining for a crossover of unprecedented hype.

The most ambitious Marvel/DC crossover ever published is finally back, with proceeds benefitting artist George Pérez.

In an interview with Empire, the director said that there’s a higher chance of DC and Marvel collaborating, with Gunn at the helm of the former. “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” he said. “Who knows?”

Fans hoping to see the two comic book universes unite in the near future, might want to hold their horses, as Gunn doesn’t seem to believe that it will happen anytime soon. “That’s many years away, though,” he revealed. Gunn further stated that it will only happen, once DC establishes a universe of its own that can rival that of the MCU. “I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it,” he stated. “But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

When it comes to Marvel and DC coming together, the two brands have already done it numerous times with their comic books. The most recent and memorable collaboration stems from the JLA/Avengers comic book series written by Kurt Busiek with art from the late George Pérez. Marvel and DC haven’t had a crossover comic since the release of JLA/Avengers in 2003-2004.
