James Robinson injury update: Jaguars RB exits with non-contact Achilles injury vs. Jets

James Robinson is done for the game, and likely the year, with an Achilles injury.

The Jaguars running back went down in a heap in the first quarter of the Jets-Jaguars matchup in MetLife Stadium on a non-contact play.

After remaining on the turf for several minutes, Robinson was helped to the sideline and was eventually carted off to the locker room.

It was a quick diagnosis for Robinson: The Jaguars officially ruled him out with an Achilles injury soon after he exited the field.

Robinson has been a player of emphasis for the Jags in 2021: After a dominant rookie year, the sophomore running back found himself in Urban Meyer’s dog house on more than one occassion, following fumble issues.

While Meyer denied that the decision to keep Robinson on the sidelines for long stretches was actually a benching, Robinson explained he felt like he was benched. Later, quarterback Trevor Lawrence would come to Robinson’s defense, explaining that Robinson, one of the the team’s best offensive players, needed to be on the field.

Meyer would be fired soon after.

Depending on the timeline for recovery, Robinson could miss anywhere from eight months to a year while recovering and rehabbing from the injury.

Robinson entered Week 16 with 757 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns. He averaged 4.7 yards per attempt on the season.
