It was an excellent strike to put the Spanish giants ahead, smashing it past Ederson from outside of the area – leaving the Brazilian goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.
And Carragher was left stunned following his moment of brilliance, and issued a bold verdict, especially with Erling Haaland on the pitch also.
Speaking at half-time of the enthralling Champions League encounter, Carragher said: “Typical Real Madrid, Manchester City had dominated the possession and they were so in control, but you can’t always press all over the pitch and go man to man, sometimes you need zonal. Bernardo Silva, Rodri… [get left by] Camavinga and he runs into acres of space.
Vinicius Jr, he comes inside because Camavinga is on that overlap and I mean, what a strike that is. I said before the game, he’s in the top five players in the world, any time I watch him play, he goes higher up that list.”
Micah Richards then jumped in and asked: “Top two now?” after seeing the Brazlian score.
And Carragher jokes he could be the world’s best if he gets another goal. “Mmm… he’ll be top one if he gets another one!”
Mmm… he’ll be top one if he gets another one!
But it wasn’t Vinicius Jr who got the next goal. Man City’s star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne pegged Real Madrid back with a fantastic strike of his own – again leaving Thibaut Courtois with no chance just like Ederson earlier.
The European tie is finely poised, and Pep Guardiola will still fancy his chances of City progressing to the final.
The winners of this tie will take on either Inter Milan or their arch rivals AC in the showpiece finale in June.
