Japanese Film Festival Returns to India for Sixth Edition, Will Screen Ten Films

The Japan Foundation has announced the launch of the sixth edition of its Japanese Film Festival. In association with PVR Inox, the festival will be held in seven cities starting this month.

Ten Japanese films to be screened

The JFF will showcase ten critically acclaimed films created by award-winning casts and crews. This lineup also includes anime films from Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki and movies from the Detective Conan franchise.

The films will be shown in their original Japanese audio with English subtitles. Here are all the films that will be screened at the JFF:

  1. We Made a Beautiful Bouquet
  2. Lupin The 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro
  3. A Man
  4. Anime Supremacy!
  5. Father of the Milky Way Railroad
  6. Intolerance
  7. Mondays: See You This Week!
  8. Detective Conan the Movie: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital
  9. Detective Conan: Episode One
  10. Detective Conan the Movie: The Last Wizard of the Century

Japanese Film Festival 2023 locations and dates

Here are all the cities and the cinemas where JFF will be held:

  • Delhi: October 12–15 at PVR Anupam Saket
  • Hyderabad: November 2–5 at PVR Next Galleria Mall, Punjagutta
  • Chennai: November 2–5 at PVR Escape, Express Avenue
  • Mumbai: December 7–10 at PVR ICON Infinity Mall, Andheri West
  • Bengaluru: December 7–10 at INOX Mantri Square Mall
  • Kolkata: January 18–21 at INOX South City
  • Pune: January 18–21 at PVR ICON Pavilion Mall

Last year, JFF organised the Japan Film & Music Festival, where it featured four films by Makoto Shinkai and performances by Radwimps. In May this year, PVR Pictures hosted the Makoto Shinkai Film Festival, which screened five of his films, including Suzume.

The Japanese Film Festival, which started in 2016 in ASEAN countries and Australia, expanded to China and India in 2017. This annual festival screens a variety of recently released films and modern classics in multiple cities. JFF also offers online streaming of films on its website.
