Jason Momoa Reveals Details About Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom While Saying, ‘I’ll Always Be Aquaman’

Alongside stating, “I’ll always be Aquaman,” Jason Momoa has shared a few plot details for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Speaking to Variety, Momoa discussed that the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman will have a much more grounded focus and, instead of a “far off galaxy” or “aliens” coming to destroy humanity, we will be the ones doing the damage.

“The beautiful thing [about ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’] is me and my partner wrote the first treatment for it and it was about a 55-page treatment, and a lot of it has to deal with me talking to the U.N. about what’s happening with the melting ice caps,” Momoa said. “There’s no far off galaxy coming to destroy us or aliens from another place. It’s us ruining our planet. We need to get it together and save our home.”

Momoa was also asked about his “wonderful” meeting with DC Studios’ co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran and what his future looks like in the DCU. There have been rumors that he may give up the trident as Aquaman but stay in the world of DC as the bounty hunter Lobo. No matter what happens to Momoa, he says he’ll “always be Aquaman.”

“I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking shit,” Momoa said. “There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming.”

Momoa talked a bit more about this meeting with Gunn and Safran on his Instagram, and he appeared to be in very high spirits. While it’s still unclear what was said behind those closed doors, Momoa walked away happy.

“Great news with Warner Brothers,” Momoa said in the video. “Amazing! Wish I could tell you, but here it is! Peter, I love you. James, I love you… To the future, to the future.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is just one of the 60 biggest movies we can’t wait to see in 2023, and it joins a promising bunch of films that include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Mision: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and many more.
