Jeremy Renner Opens Up About Snowplow Accident in First Interview: ‘What’s My Body Going to Look Like?’
Marvel’s Jeremy Renner has revealed all about his recent snowplow accident in a new interview.
Speaking to Diane Sawyer for a new TV special titled A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph, the Avengers star revealed exactly how much he remembers from the harrowing incident.
“All of it,” he said. “I was awake through every moment.”
Renner was hospitalized back in January after he was run over by his own Sno-Cat snowplow – a machine weighing over 14,330 pounds. He was attempting to help his nephew out of the snow near his home when he was crushed.
“I see him in a pool of blood coming from his head,” said Renner’s nephew during the interview. “I ran up to him. I didn’t think he was alive.”
Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and underwent successful surgery shortly after the incident. He also shared a photo of himself after surgery, thanking everyone for their support.
‘I chose to survive’
“What’s my body going to look like?” recounted Renner when discussing his injuries. “Am I just going to be a spine and a brain, like a science experiment?”
“I chose to survive,” he said. “That’s not gonna kill me, no way. I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.”
Renner last appeared as the Marvel superhero Hawkeye in his own Disney+ spin-off show. However, he’ll next appear on our screens in Rennervations – a new four-part series that sees the actor help communities across the globe by reimagining unique purpose-built vehicles.
The show will premiere at Los Angeles’ Regency Village Theater on April 11 with an appearance by Renner himself – his first public appearance since the accident.
