Jimmy Butler passes LeBron James for most triple-doubles in Heat franchise history

At the 6:37 mark of the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, Jimmy Butler pulled down his 10th rebound for the game, bringing up his third triple-double of the season and 10th as a member of the Miami Heat.

That makes him the all-time leader for triple-doubles in Heat franchise history, surpassing LeBron James while facing him. 

Butler finished the game with 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as the Heat survived the Lakers’ furious fourth-quarter rally to clinch the game 113-107. 

At the final buzzer, James had 33 points – 11 of which came in the fourth quarter – to go along with 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action. This loss is James’ fifth in seven visits to Miami since leaving the franchise in the summer of 2014. 

In one of the two wins, he put on a show in South Beach with a 51-point showcase. 

Butler brought up his 10th triple-double in a span of 139 games, far lesser than James’ tally of 294 games for his nine triple-doubles.
