Jio gained 16.8 lakh subscribers, Vodafone Idea lost 15.7 lakh users in April: TRAI data

The total number of Indian wireless subscribers count has increased to 114.3 crore at the end of April 2022. The number of wireless subscribers in urban areas dropped to 62.4 crore, while the number of wireless subscribers in rural areas increased up to 51.8 crore in April 2022.

With the addition of 16.82 lakh users in its portfolio, Reliance Jio leads the Indian telecom market with over 40.5 crore mobile subscribers. Airtel also added new 8.1 lakh users in the month of April 2022, taking its subscribers’ list to 36.11 crore users. Further, TRAI data shows that Vodafone Idea lost 15.68 lakh users in April 2022, and its user list is now sitting at 25.9 crore subscribers. The total number of Indian wireless subscribers count reached 114.3 crore at the end of April 2022.

According to TRAI, ‘Monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscription were -0.07% and 0.20% respectively and Urban and Rural Wireline Tele-density were 4.83%
and 0.22% respectively during the same period.’

Reliance Jio also gained 3.31 lakh broadband subscribers, and Airtel added 71,297 broadband users in the month of April. Reliance Jio’s market share in broadband subscribers is 25.85 percent, and Airtel has 23.54 percent. The total number of Indian wireline subscribers count increased by 2.51 crore at the end of April 2022.
