JioCinema confirms Bhediya OTT release this month: see expected date

JioCinema has finally confirmed the OTT release of Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon-starrer Bhediya, putting to rest all speculation regarding the horror-comic thriller that has been awaiting an online abode ever since it hit theatres in November 2022.

The announcement by JioCinema of a May 2023 release comes after another hugely anticipated Bollywood film, Vikram Vedha, starring Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan, made its way to the streaming platform on May 12th. Cinema Rare on Twitter reportedly suggests Bhediya will premiere on May 26th on JioCinema.

In the same trailer which confirms the Bhediya OTT release, two new series have also been teased. The first is Inspector Avinash, starring Randeep Hooda. The show is based on the life of UP cop Avinash Mishra and his trysts with the arms mafia in the late 90s. The second show is Crackdown 2. The first season of the show is already streaming on the platform.

The last few months have been huge for Jio Cinema. First, the platform bagged the rights for the FIFA World Cup 2022, in India, followed by the 5-year streaming rights for the IPL, both of which it has offered for free (IPL 2023), without the need of even an account login on the app.

This was followed by the acquisition of HBO content in India, which is now behind the platform’s first-ever paid subscription plan of Rs 999 per year. In this accelerated attempt at getting the best of entertainment and sports content for all types of Indian audiences, JioCinema has now reportedly planned a weekly schedule for top-notch Hindi movies and Web series, starting from May and continuing after IPL 2023.

Bhediya is said to be part of this ambitious content slate, which was earlier reportedly planned for a new app from Jio. But with Jio Cinema becoming the centre of focus, we can expect other such major Bollywood films to come exclusively to the platform.

Coming to the details of the film, Bhediya is a comedy-horror thriller that revolves around a man in a small village, who gets bitten by a wolf. As he transforms into a werewolf, the film shows how the man and his friends attempt to uncover the mystery behind his condition through horror and comedic elements.
