Job cuts at Twitter: Offices closed, security staff prepared and other details – Times of India

Twitter is set to start layoffs on Friday (November 4), as per an internal memo sent to employees. The job cuts have been seen to be coming ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter. Musk completed his $44 billion purchase of Twitter on October 27. His tenure at Twitter started with the firing of CEO Parag Agrawal, legal executive Vijaya Gadde, chief financial officer Ned Segal and general counsel Sean Edgett. In less than a week since Musk acquired the company, its top management appears to have almost entirely cleared out, through a mix of firings and resignations. Musk has also dissolved Twitter’s former board of directors. Musk is said to have also brought in more than 50 engineers and employees from his other companies, including electric carmaker Tesla, to review the layoff lists. Here are the key details of the job cuts at Twitter that are set to be announced later in the day today.
No detail on the number of job cuts, reports claim them to be more than 3000
Reports suggest that about half of Twitter’s workers are likely to lose their jobs. These numbers are based on previous internal messages and an investor. According to a report, employees took note of a Slack message that suggested “3,738 people” could be laid off and that changes could still be made to the list. Twitter had around 7,500 employees when Musk took over.
Twitter job cuts are happening globally
The job cuts will take place across the company’s offices worldwide. “In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday,” said the internal memo on layoffs. This means that most Twitter locations across the globe are likely to be impacted.
Twitter offices closed
Twitter offices are closed today, in what the company says to ensure safety of staff. “To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home,” reads the memo.
Security staff prepared for job cuts
Security staff at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters reportedly carried out preparations for layoffs. An internal directory used to look up colleagues was taken offline on Thursday (November 3) afternoon, people with knowledge of the matter said.
Employees to be informed about their employment status through email
Your job is saved or not “If your employment is not impacted, you will receive a notification via your Twitter email. If your employment is impacted, you will receive a notification with next steps via your personal email,” says the note. “If you do not receive an email from twitter-hr@ by 5PM PST on Friday Nov. 4th, please email xxxxxxxx,” adds the note.
GM others pause advertising
Some advertisers have paused advertising on the platform until they get a clearer idea of Musk’s plans. Musk has said that he wants to remove some content moderation, giving rise to concerns that this may give rise to hate speech and misinformation on the platform. General Mills Inc said it’s temporarily pausing advertising on Twitter, joining Volkswagen AG’s Audi and General Motors Co.
