Joel Glazer has £138m Jadon Sancho transfer theory as Man Utd owner delighted with deal
Joel Glazer is convinced that Jadon Sancho’s move to Manchester United will prove great value for money in time, with United agreeing an initial £73million transfer fee plus a five-year £65m contract to broker an agreement.
United confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they had agreed a deal to sign Sancho from Borussia Dortmund that could rise to £78m and according to The Athletic, they will pay the attacker around £250,000 a week before bonuses.
An official statement from United read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
“The signing is subject to contractual terms and a medical, which will be completed after Jadon’s involvement in the UEFA European Championship.”
Sancho is thought to have agreed a deal until 2026 that includes an option for an additional year, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally landing his top target and a forward he has wanted for over 12 months.
The Athletic say that Solskjaer is confident Sancho, who is eager to take the No 7 shirt currently worn by Edinson Cavani, will blossom into an integral player for the Red Devils.
And it’s added that co-owner Glazer holds a similar belief that the 21-year-old will repay the money spent on him by United given his immense potential.
The England international has already produced 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 first-team appearances for Dortmund, also managing three goals and five assists in 20 Three Lions appearances.
And with Glazer having apparently been requesting regular updates on the progress of a deal for Sancho, with it claimed the American was across every detail, he is clearly excited to see the winger strut his stuff in Manchester.
Marco Rose was officially unveiled as Dortmund’s new manager on Thursday and admitted his disappointment that Sancho will not be one of the talents at his disposal.
The German coach said: “Jadon’s qualities were unpredictable. I think every coach likes to have a player like Jadon Sancho in his team.
“Now, of course, over the last few months, and of course it was also part of our talks, we knew that it could come down to Jadon not being here at some point.
“But on that right wing, as well as Mason [Greenwood] has done, and I’m a massive Mason Greenwood fan, out there having a winger.
“This is Man United, always associated with wingers. Always have done over the years. Any of our most successful times there’s been wide players who can go on the outside and cross the ball.
“For a full-back, it’s terrible news! This boy, just look at his stats, they don’t lie. In terms of goal involvements he was the second most over three seasons [in the Bundesliga] – that’s a fact.
“He’s got to convert that to the Premier League which is difficult, we’ve seen that, but listen, I believe in Jadon Sancho man.
“Since he was a kid, he’s had hot press, hot expectations, he had the bravery to leave Man City and go abroad. Personality, character.”
