Jurgen Klopp may have already found four ‘new signings’ for Liverpool squad

Liverpool’s summer transfer business got underway quickly, with Ibrahima Konate signed before the window had opened. Since then though, things have slowed down at Anfield, with the squad recently returning for pre-season training.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that while new players could arrive, the younger members of his squad have a chance to stake a claim in his plans.

“The door is open,” Klopp told the official Liverpool website as the Reds began their preparations for the upcoming season.

“A lot of midfielders not here, so come on, take the chance and play the best football you are able to do and then we immediately get options – it’s always like having new signings.”

Here, Daily Express Sport looks at four players who could fulfil Klopp’s ambition of acting as “new signings”.

Harvey Elliott

One of the brightest stars in Liverpool’s junior sides, Harvey Elliott has taken part in first-team training this summer.

The 18-year-old scored nine goals from attacking midfield in the Under 18 Premier League last season.

Despite only recently joining from Derby County, he has already been called up to train with Liverpool’s first-team for the summer.

Leighton Clarkson

Leighton Clarkson moved up to Liverpool’s under 23 quad last season and was a regular in defensive midfield in Premier League 2.

He also made his Champions League debut, starting the Reds’ group game away at Midtjylland last December.

Klopp hailed his performance in Denmark that night and with Georginio Wijnaldum having left, Clarkson could take his place in the senior squad.

Mateusz Musialowski

Another young winger emerging as a bright talent is Polish youngster Mateusz Musialowski, who impressed during his first year on Merseyside.

Musialowski picked up the club’s goal of the month award for March after scoring a remarkable solo goal against Newcastle.

That was one of eight goals in scored in the Under 18 Premier League and like Gordon his energy could be put to use by Klopp if he impresses in pre-season training.
