Twitter Inc. again suspended Kanye West’s account after the musician and designer posted a swastika in a tweet that the social-media platform’s owner,
Elon Musk,
said violated its rules.
Mr. West, who now legally goes by Ye and had recently returned from a previous suspension, on Thursday posted a picture of a swastika merged with the Star of David.
Asked on Twitter by a user to “fix Kanye please,” Mr. Musk replied: “I tried my best. Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended.”
Mr. West’s account then began displaying a message saying it was suspended, with no tweets visible.
Mr. Musk, who owns Twitter, has described himself as a free-speech absolutist and has said Twitter generally should intervene only to comply with local laws.
Twitter in October locked Mr. West’s account after he posted a tweet that said in part that he planned to go “death con [sic] 3 on Jewish people.”
Mr. West’s account was restored in November, with Mr. Musk saying on Twitter the suspension had been done before his $44 billion acquisition of the company. “They did not consult with or inform me,” he wrote on Twitter at the time.
Last week Mr. Musk said he would reinstate suspended accounts, bringing back users who previously had been banned for posting hate speech, inciting violence or engaging in other behavior that violated its policies. He reinstated the account of former President
Donald Trump,
though Mr. Trump hasn’t used the platform since.
Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on how long Mr. West’s suspension would last.
Mr. West couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Mr. West has been widely criticized for his anti-Semitic remarks and has been dropped from partnerships with corporations in recent months, including those with major brands such as Adidas AG and Gap Inc.
During an interview Thursday with internet broadcaster Alex Jones, Mr. West said there are “a lot of things” that he loves about Adolf Hitler.
Parlement Technologies Inc., the parent company of social network Parler, said Thursday a sale to Mr. West had been terminated.
In October, Parlement Technologies said it had entered into an agreement in principle with Mr. West to buy the platform, which has attracted millions of users by pitching itself as a “free speech Twitter alternative.”
