Karim Adeyemi shows why he could be Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool January ‘solution’
Liverpool are chasing a transfer for RB Salzburg star Karim Adeyemi and it is easy to see why after his performance in the Champions League. The Germany international is one option as Jurgen Klopp has already admitted to January transfer plans.
Adeyemi’s ability in the box can help him settle into life at Liverpool easily after winning RB Salzburg three penalties in the Champions League against Sevilla.
Less can be said about his penalty-taking, though, with two spot-kicks being missed by the Germany international.
However, at Anfield, he would not be the one taking the penalties with that duty falling on Mohamed Salah’s shoulders, while the likes of James Milner, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino are the others on the list.
Nevertheless, Adeyemi was a constant thorn in Sevilla’s side, who simply could not defend against him in an extraordinary game that somehow only finished 1-1.
A January transfer has been mooted while the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also interested in the 19-year-old.
But Liverpool are keen on a move with the African Cup of Nations coming up, which will hit Liverpool harder than most.
Salah and Sadio Mane are set to depart, as well as Naby Keita, but the two forwards will be hugely missed at Anfield and Adeyemi could be a potential stop-gap replacement while they are with their countries.
The problem only grew bigger in the summer when no attacking player was signed while Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri departed, leaving just Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi as back-up options.
And the situation has already been alluded to by Klopp, who hinted at business to be done admitting he must find a solution in January.
“It depends on the situation in the squad at the moment,” said the Reds boss. “It’s not ideal, everybody knows that.
“Africa Cup of Nations, they have the right to play their tournament, like Europe and South America, that is completely fine.
“We knew it, we have to deal with it, and we will deal with it. How? We will have to see in January.
“People are saying now that we have to sign two strikers of the same quality as Sadio and Mo, but that cannot be a solution as we cannot do that. So we need to find a solution in January.”
