Katie Ledecky wins 1,500m freestyle for 20th world swimming title | More sports News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: American swimmer Katie Ledecky achieved her 20th world swimming title on Tuesday by winning the women’s 1,500m freestyle event in Fukuoka, Japan. She completed the race in an impressive time of 15 minutes and 26.27 seconds.

Ledecky secured first place, leaving Italy’s Simona Quadarella in second with a time of 15 minutes and 43.31 seconds, followed by China’s Li Bingjie in third with a time of 15 minutes and 45.71 seconds.

This victory marks Ledecky’s fifth world title in the 1,500m freestyle, a discipline in which she has been dominant. Her performance in this event is reflected in her record of having swum the top 15 fastest times ever recorded.

In 2019, Ledecky had to withdraw from the event due to illness, losing her crown to Simona Quadarella. However, she made a strong comeback by winning the event at the Tokyo Olympics and later regaining her world title in Budapest.
With the possibility of competing in the 800m freestyle later in the week, Ledecky has a chance to make history as the first swimmer ever to win six titles in a single event.

In the ongoing competition in Fukuoka, Ledecky has already won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle, finishing in second place behind Australia’s Ariarne Titmus on the opening night of the event.
