Kevin Feige may be constantly weaving a complicated tapestry within the MCU, but does that extend to who lives and who dies in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Not so much, the Marvel Studios president revealed – with the agreement of writer/director James Gunn – during a press conference for the movie today. Reading a question submitted by Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier, moderator Nathan Fillion asked Feige, “how much slack was [Gunn] given to leave the characters in places that might impact the future of the MCU?”
“I think he gets all the slack,” Feige said, with Gunn adding, “I get all the slack. Especially on this one.”
“As much slack as there is to give, he is given,” Feige went on.
Fillion, however, pressed further, asking Feige, “You don’t get nervous if he wants to kill someone off?”
“It always was designed as a trilogy capper.
“On previous movies, we had some discussions about that,” Feige admitted. “But not on this one. This one really was about seeing it through, because it always was designed as a trilogy capper.”
Ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s release next week, there’s been plenty of speculation on if any of the beloved characters will be killed off, which has only been ramped up by Gunn teasing how “emotional” the trilogy ender is. Plus, Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, recently said that while Vol. 3 may not be the last fans see of the Guardians, it is the last time she’ll play the character.
