Knuckles: Christopher Lloyd, Cary Elwes, and More Join Sonic the Hedgehog Spinoff Series

Knuckles, Paramount+’s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series starring Idris Elba as the titular echidna, is shaping up to have one star-studded cast.

Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Stockard Channing, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel have been added to the cast of Knuckles, Paramount+, Paramount Pictures, and SEGA announced today. Their character details, however, are being kept under wraps.

They join an already pretty impressive ensemble that also includes Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann, Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), and Ellie Taylor, in addition to Adam Pally and Tika Sumpter, reprising their roles from the movies as Wade Whipple and Maddie Wachowski, respectively.

Knuckles doesn’t currently have a release date, but it takes place sometime in between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (which released back in April) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is currently slated for Dec. 20, 2024. According to Paramount+, the live-action series will follow Knuckles on a “journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”

Paramount is clearly staying the course when it comes to the Sonic franchise, bringing back all of the films’ key creatives to work on Knuckles. Jeff Fowler, who directed both movies, will direct the pilot episode. John Whittington, meanwhile, wrote the pilot and is head writer on the series overall after working on the script for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Elba is also serving as an executive producer.

Knuckles isn’t the only Sonic series that’s chugging right along; Netflix’s Sonic Prime also just recently landed a July 13 release date.
