Lando Norris ‘a better F1 driver than George Russell’ as Mercedes star baffled
George Russell had his ‘mood ruined’ going into the Spanish Grand Prix after finding out that his overall rating in the F1 23 video game is worse than that of Lando Norris. The two top talents gave fans a treat by trying to guess eachother’s detailed ratings in a recent video, with Norris having the last laugh.
Russell and Norris have both been tipped for Drivers’ Championship success in the past. While they only have one Grand Prix win between them as they venture further into their mid-twenties, there is still plenty of time for the silverware to stack up.
Given Mercedes’ superior performance to McLaren, Russell theoretically has the best chance of success in the near future. He has taken the step up from Williams in his stride and powered to an emotional victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix last year.
He was therefore left dumbfounded upon discovering that Norris was rated one point higher than him in this year’s F1 23 video game.
Despite never notching an F1 race win, Norris is rated 89 with Russell one behind on 88. The Mercedes star was even more perplexed as his rating decreased by two from last year’s game, despite banking another year of valuable experience.
“Wait, so I’ve gone down?!” he ranted in a video posted to the official F1 YouTube channel. “Hang on, what? You’ve ruined my mood going into the weekend.” Norris then responded: “Don’t be a sore loser, you spoilsport.”
Although he drives a significantly faster car, Russell has wiped the floor with Norris after seven Grands Prix in this season’s Drivers’ Championship, with his 65-point haul dwarfing the McLaren man’s 12.
The gap could get even wider over the coming weeks as the Silver Arrows get to grips with a new upgrades package, which has served them well across two races since it was introduced in Monaco last month.
