Last of Us Series Season 2 to Follow the Sequel Timeline; Pedro Pascal’s Beard Caused Casting Issues and More

It is less than 10 days for The Last of Us TV series to arrive, and the fans couldn’t be more excited. The show releases on January 15, 2023 and features Game of Thrones stars, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey playing the roles of Joel and Ellie. The show is being co-created by Chernobyl creator, Craig Mazin, and Last of Us creator, Neil Druckmann.

Recently, through an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin and Druckmann have revealed some intriguing details about the show. During the interview, the duo was asked about the next season of the series and whether it will contain the events of The Last of Us Part II. Mazin and Druckmann’s answers were more than satisfactory for the fans.

Druckmann stated that he has no plans to tell any stories beyond what is being adapted from the game. He added that they won’t fall victims to the same issues as Game of Thrones, as the sequel to the game does not end on a cliffhanger.

Mazin also stated that he is not interested in “a spinning-plates-go-on-forever show”. He added that when a show becomes a “perpetual motion machine”, it can help but become kind of “stupid”. He concluded, stating that endings mean everything to him.

Pascal’s Beard

Another interesting fact was that Pedro Pascal’s beard was a subject of concern during the casting phase. Many fans were worried as Pascal cannot grow a full beard, and the character he was playing, Joel, is known for having a thick beard. In the end, the fact that Pascal can’t grow a full beard was looked over, and he was cast for the role.

Arya Stark could’ve been Ellie

The next interesting thing we learned was the Bella Ramsey was not the only Game of Thrones star in consideration for the role of Ellie. Maisie Williams, the actress who played Arya Stark in the show, was also asked to audition. But according to Mazin and Druckmann, they felt Bella Ramsey embodied Ellie so well during the audition, that it felt like they weren’t watching an actor, but Ellie in live action.

The Last of Us Part III?

Moreover, Druckmann passed a very intriguing statement during the interview. He stated that he could not reveal any details about a third instalment to the series. But, he thinks that there is more story to tell. Now, we do not know whether it will be envisioned through a third game or a season 3 for the series, we will just have to wait and see.

Lastly, The Last of Us franchise turns ten in June 2023, and they have sold through more than 37 million copies globally as of December 2022. Last of Us Part 1 was a major success on the PlayStation 5 and the PC port of the game will arrive on March 3, 2023. During the tenth anniversary of the franchise in June 2023, more details about their future will be shared.

Later in the year, some new details about The Last of Us Multiplayer game will be revealed. The project is a fresh and new experience from the studio, but still follows Naughty Dog’s passion while creating the stories, characters, and gameplay.
