Latest Wordle Answer Sparks Controversy

The New York Times recently issued a statement regarding a change in the answer for today’s Wordle.

The popular publication acquired the viral game from software engineer Josh Wardle around three months ago, and since then, players have been logging in daily to guess a new five letter word everyday.

However, the newspaper behind the celebrated crossword puzzle recently revealed that it tried to change the answer for today’s Wordle, as it connected to a controversial event that’s taking place in America right now.

In a statement released by the NYT, the paper mentioned that it noticed the Wordle for May 9 was “FETUS”, and as the answers have already been loaded over a year ago, it was difficult for the publication to change it for all solvers.

The word “FETUS” has been deemed controversial by The New York Times, as it points towards the leaked Supreme Court of the United States of America opinion that might lead to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which protects a pregnant woman’s right to have an abortion in America.

The New York Times stated that it wants its games to be a mode of escape for players, who don’t wish to be affected by current world events.

This isn’t the first time the publication has changed the answers that Josh Wardle loaded into the game he created. However, this is the first time an answer was changed because of a controversial world event.
