Laxita Sandila wins women’s 1500m gold at Asian U-20 Athletics Championship | More sports News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India’s Laxita Vinod Sandila produced a personal best time of 4:24.23 seconds to win gold medal in women’s 1500m race on the concluding day of the Asian U-20 Athletics Championships in Yecheon, South Korea on Wednesday.
Sandila achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing her previous personal best of 4:26.48s by a significant margin of over two seconds, securing India’s fifth gold medal of the championship.
Mehdi Hasan claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 1500m race, completing the event in a commendable time of 3:56.01s. Shivaji Parashu Madappagoudra contributed to India’s medal haul with a silver medal in the men’s 5000m race, achieving a time of 14:49.05s, bringing India’s overall tally to an impressive 17 medals.
The championship had a promising start for India, as Rezoana Mallick Heena and Bharatpreet Singh shone brightly, each securing a gold medal in the women’s 400m and men’s discus throw events, respectively, on the opening day.
Continuing the winning streak, shot putter Siddharth Choudhary claimed yet another gold medal on Monday, delivering a personal best throw of 19.52m. Decathlete Sunil Kumar also contributed to India’s gold count, securing a yellow metal on Tuesday.
