Lazarus is a New Adult Swim Anime from the Director of Cowboy Bebop
Adult Swim announced today that it has greenlit a new anime series called Lazarus, with Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe taking point on the project.
Adult Swim said Lazarus marks “Watanabe’s return to the sci-fi action genre with a globe-trotting thriller” set in the year 2052. “As I embark on this creative journey, I can’t help but feel that this project will serve as a culmination of my career so far,” Watanabe commented. “I hope you enjoy it.”
More interestingly, Adult Swim confirmed the “high-octane action sequences” in Lazarus will be designed by Chad Stahelski, who’s best known for his role as the director for the John Wick films.
Lazarus will focus on a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist who develops a cure-all drug with a side effect that causes those that take it to die three years later. A special task force called Lazarus is formed with the goal of finding a vaccine for the drug.
The premiere date has yet to be announced, but Adult Swim confirmed fans attending its Festival in San Diego this weekend have a chance to see a first look at the series as well as get a first look at its original upcoming original TV shows the company is working on.
