Leeds chant ‘you fat b*****d’ at their own player as Prem relegation confirmed
Weston McKennie was reportedly the subject of a cruel Leeds chant as Elland Road’s atmosphere turned toxic upon relegation from the Premier League. The American midfielder was substituted in the second half during Leeds’ 4-1 thumping by Tottenham, and appears to have played his last game for the club.
Leeds will play in the Championship next season after a comfortable defeat at home to Spurs. Harry Kane struck a double, with Pedro Porro and Lucas Moura adding further goals.
Jack Harrison’s second-half strike was not enough for the Whites. Everton and Leicester both won, meaning Sam Allardyce’s side went down alongside the Foxes and Southampton.
As Spurs’ lead grew greater in the second period, the atmosphere inside Elland Road grew toxic. Some players were the targets of harsh chants as they went down without much of a fight.
According to The Athletic, supporters chanted “you fat b*****d” as McKennie was substituted on the hour-mark. The 24-year-old has struggled for form in his final season at Leeds and fans’ frustration over his performances reached a boiling point on the last day of the campaign.
