Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers now under massive pressure as Nottingham Forest maul Foxes

Brendan Rodgers is coming under increasing pressure at Leicester City following his side’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat to east midlands rivals Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Last season Rodgers led the Foxes to glory in this competition for the first time in the club’s history following a memorable 1-0 win over Chelsea in the final at Wembley.

However, Leicester have struggled this season, sitting in a disappointing tenth place in the Premier League table and having already been knocked out of the Europa League at the group stages.

There were hopes that another FA Cup run could help ignite their faltering campaign, and there was added spice as they made the short journey to face their old enemy Forest on Sunday.

But their supporters were left to endure another miserable afternoon as they were comprehensively outplayed by the Championship team.

And questions will now be asked over whether Rodgers may have taken Leicester as far as he can.

Forest took the lead on 23 minutes in front of a raucous crowd at the City Ground as Philip Zinckernagel poked home with his knee.

And incredibly just 83 seconds later they had doubled their lead, with Brennan Johnson intercepting a dreadful back-pass by James Justin and slotting home to cause pandemonium in the stands.

Things were only going to get better, though, and just after the half-an-hour mark Joe Worrell made it three, with the Foxes defence in turmoil.

The away side did get a goal back before half-time as Kelechi Iheanacho took advantage of a Brice Samba mistake to give Leicester hope.

But any prospect of an incredible comeback died when Djed Spencer grabbed a fourth in the second-half.

Forest will now host Huddersfield Town in the fifth round dreaming of winning a first trophy since they picked up the League Cup in 1990.

Leicester, meanwhile, will turn attentions back to the Premier League.

But things don’t get any easier as Rodgers next returns to Anfield to take on former team Liverpool on February 10.

And if there are not signs of improvement soon his time at the King Power Stadium may well be limited. 

His name being linked to the Manchester United job now seems a long, long time ago.
