Lenovo and TEC Conduct Extensive Survey on Gaming Habits of Indian Gamers, with 66% of Them Receiving Parental Approval and More

Gaming in India has seen tremendous growth in recent years and that can be attributed to various factors such as increase in streamers, more accessibility for the players, participation and esports and a lot more. Due to that many players in the country have become all about that gaming life, but what are the average gaming habits of an Indian gamer is the question. Lenovo and The Esports Club’s recent survey seeks to answer this question.

Lenovo and TEC conducted a survey to have a comprehensive understanding of habits, preferences and behaviors of Indian Gamers. Their survey was spread across more than 70 cities, with a sample size of more than 18,000. Their preliminary findings revealed that 89% of the total gamer population in India is under the age of 24 years, with significant growth observed in the younger audiences.

Moreover, out of all the gamers in India, 71% of them can be categorized as students, 15% come under the employed category, 8% of them are self-employed and 6% of them are unemployed. Talking about the family unit of gamers, in terms of source of income, 58% of them receive their money from jobs, 31% get it from business or self-employement and the rest 11% procure their income from other ways.

Going into house ownership, it seems that 80% of the country’s gamers can be found in owned homes and the rest 20% in rented home. In terms of car ownership, 58% of them have no cars, 31% have at least 1 car and the rest 11% have 2 or more cars. Diving deeper into the family unit it can be observed that 30% of parents actively support their children to game, 36% rarely support gaming and the rest 34% does not support gaming.

Furthermore, looking at the insights of the types of gamers in the country, 60% of them fall in the casual esports category, 14% of them fall in the casual gamer category, 13% come in the pro esports category, 9% of them fall in the AAA gamer category and the rest 4% falls in the Hyper Casual Gamer category, revealing that a majority 82% are serious gamers. In terms of social media presence, almost all gamers are on Instagram with a whopping 99% of them falling in this category, 53% on Snapchat, 38% on Facebook, 26% on Twitter, 18% on LinkedIn and 8% on other platforms.

Checking out the avg game time for Indian gamers, 18% would game less than an hour, more than half would game for 1-3 hours with 54% in this category and 28% game for more than 3 hours. Moving on to frequency of gaming. 64% of player would game daily, 24% would game several times a week, 5% of them game once a week, game several times a month and the rest 4% game once a month or lesser. Here we see growth as 82% of gamers at least game for 1 hour per session and 88% of them do it daily or at least weekly.

Lastly, coming to where gamers play their games, 94% of them game at their homes, 22% of them game at a friend’s place, 12% game at their colleges or dormitories, 10% game at their local gaming cafes and the rest 6% game at their work. These statistics definitely provide interesting insights to the players and reveal how gaming has bolstered its hold over the country over time.
