Lenovo leads the declining global PC market – Times of India

As per the latest data by research analytics firm IDC, the traditional PC market has witnessed a continuous decline. IDC reports that the traditional PCs shipped globally in the third quarter dropped by 15%. However, shipment volumes remain well above pre-pandemic levels when PC volumes were largely driven by commercial refreshes due to the looming end of support for Windows 7.
Reasons for the continuous decline in the PC market
The report adds that muted consumer demands and the supply have also reacted to the new lows by reducing orders with Apple being the only exception as their third-quarter supply increased to make up for lost orders stemming from the lockdowns in China during the second quarter.
Top five players in the PC shipment market
The report also reveals the list of the top five players in the global PC market. The top position in the market is captured by Lenovo with a 22.7% market share but the shipments declined by 16.1%.

HP and Dell sit in the second and third slots with 17.1% and 16.1% market share respectively. The fourth position is captured by Apple with a 13.5% market share and Apple also posted 40.2% growth.
Lastly, Asus captures the fifth position with a 7.5% market share. “Shortages over the last several years have aggressively driven product mix shifts towards the premium end. This, coupled with cost increases of components and logistics, drove ASPs up five quarters in a row to $910 in 1Q22, the highest since 2004. However, with demand slowing, promotions in full swing, and orders being cut, the ASP climb was reversed in 2Q22. Another quarter of ASP declines indicates a market in retreat,” said IDC.
