Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari ‘a match made in F1 heaven’
Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari would be a “match made in heaven” and a “dream”, according to former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan. Several pundits have linked Hamilton with the Prancing Horse if he decides to walk away from Mercedes.
The Brit has yet to put pen to paper on a new agreement with the Silver Arrows as the team continues to struggle. However, Jordan feels a move to Ferrari would be ideal for both parties who share the same ambitions to contend out at the front.
He told Express Sport at Luxury London Afloat: “There’s only one place he could go to in my opinion and that is Ferrari. A guy with the talent that he is, and I think it might be a [match made] in heaven. I think Ferrari need shaking up and I think Lewis Hamilton needs shaking up, if they are going to continue.
“If Lewis is going to continue then I think he needs a change. For his mindset, for his drive, for an initiative, for fun. Learning Italian, dealing and eating pasta with those guys, it’s a different world. And having run a team we always saw how different Ferrari operates and I would love to see Lewis in that environment.
“I think he could really shake them up. I think he could bring a new sense of direction to them, I think he would eradicate a lot of the little problems Ferrari have had.
“So therefore, I would just like to see before he fully retires, I would like to see Lewis there for a year or two to see what would happen. Just think of the column inches. It’s an amazing story. It’s unlikely to happen but it’s my dream.”
Jordan’s comments come after Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle suggested Hamilton has “one more roll of the dice” in him to switch teams before hanging up his helmet. The commentator also claimed there may be a part of Hamilton that wants to go to Ferrari in a bid to emulate Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton has previously admitted it would be “crazy” to think he never got a chance to drive for Ferrari. The Mercedes star also stressed getting behind the wheel for the Scuderia would be a “dream position” for anyone.
However, the 38-year-old has appeared to cool down the rumours he could join the Italian squad as he recently pledged his future to Mercedes.
Last month, he explained: “I still have 100 per cent belief in this team, it is my family and I’ve been here a long time, so I don’t plan on going anywhere else.”
