Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have same fear for Las Vegas GP

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have both warned drivers could be distracted at next year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix. The former title rivals agreed it could be difficult to focus when the debut race rolls around next November.

Speaking after the announcement earlier this year, Hamilton said: “Knowing that it’s a real party city, it’s difficult for a racing driver, how are we even going to focus that weekend.” Meanwhile, Verstappen commented: “I think a few drivers might not wake up for the race itself. Let’s not do back-to-back for this one, let’s give it like two weeks’ break before and after.”

However, the pair have still expressed their excitement at taking part in the iconic race at the end of 2023. Seven-time champion Hamilton has claimed the Grand Prix would be “absolutely incredible” and could be “one of the greatest” races.

Red Bull star Verstappen has predicted the weekend was “going to be fun”. Hamilton will attend a special launch event at the Caesars Palace tonight (Saturday) alongside team-mate George Russell.

Ahead of the event, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was confident the Las Vegas Grand Prix was set to become a “regular fixture” on the global sporting calendar. He explained: “We are thrilled to welcome our fans to the launch of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

“The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to become a regular fixture in the city and on the global sporting calendar, so it is important to have local fans both celebrated and celebrating with us from the very start. This launch is a small but exciting taste of things to come over the next year when all the Formula One teams hit The Strip.”
