Lewis Hamilton declares he misses Angela Cullen and shares reunion plan
Lewis Hamilton has admitted he misses former physio Angela Cullen and has shared plans to reunite with the New Zealander. The Mercedes star praised Cullen and continued to reiterate they were “good friends” away from the track.
Hamilton made the admission ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, months after the duo parted ways. Cullen’s departure at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix came as a huge shock after working by Hamilton’s side since 2016.
He told French newspaper L’Equipe: “I miss her every day. She was a breath of fresh air for me every day. She was always a great help during the seven years we worked together. She was and still is a very good friend. In fact, we’re talking about getting together again and doing something together soon, like parachute jumping, maybe.
“We’ll never leave each other. I’m very grateful for everything she’s given me.” No details on the reason Cullen left the sport have emerged despite her active social media presence.
Hamilton simply admitted she was off to “live her life” and “pursue her dreams” away from racing. The seven-time champion has repeatedly stressed they were set to meet up away from the circuit, recently admitting they had plans to go mountain climbing.
He commented: “We’re always going to be in each other’s lives, always looking forward to the next fun adventure, whether it be skydiving, whether it be climbing Mount Everest together at some stage probably, who knows, and just continuing to support each other in our journeys.”
It is understood Hamilton has replaced Cullen with Mercedes’ race team coordinator, Stephen Lord. He has recently admitted to working with a new trainer called Kylie at some race weekends.
However, despite parting ways with 48-year-old Cullen, Hamilton has confirmed he still had the same programmes in place.
When asked if he had made any changes to his training since Cullen’s exit, Hamilton replied: “No, because I think you always have to adjust your routine, but the team helped me bounce back.” Cullen has remained positive about Hamilton since leaving F1, revealing key details on his personality on her Instagram page.
She also claimed the 38-year-old was the best driver on the grid in a touching social media post earlier this season. She posted: “@lewishamilton you GOAT!!
“It’s been such an honour and pleasure to stand alongside you. I’m so proud of you and everything you have achieved. Thank you for supporting me, believing in me and showing me the limitless potential we all have within us.”
