Lewis Hamilton fumes on Mercedes team radio during Monaco GP – ‘What has just happened?’

Lewis Hamilton was left furious on the Mercedes team radio after a disastrous pitstop window for the Brit around the iconic circuit on lap 33 of 78. Hamilton went on to finish seventh at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Mercedes had a horrible few laps midway through the race as Hamilton came in for his pit stop, switching to the hard tyres to take him to the end of the race, before a wheel nut problem for Valtteri Bottas ruled him out.

It was the latest dramatic occurrence in an action-packed Monaco race, as pole-sitter Charles Leclerc was forced to retire before he even took his place on the grid.

Hamilton was the first of the Mercedes to come in as the team attempted to undercut the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly, however it didn’t work and the Frenchman emerged in front of the seven-time world champion.

“How am I still behind him [Gasly], man? Come on,” complained an angry Hamilton on the radio.

“To cap it all, Aston Martin did make the longer stint work. That is why Lewis Hamilton is livid.”

Bottas, Hamilton’s team-mate then endured an awful dose of Monte Carlo misfortune when a routine pit stop went badly wrong and ruled the Finn out of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Bottas, who was pushing Max Verstappen at the front of the field during the race, looked in good shape for a strong race finish in the principality, but a solid start turned into an abrupt ending when the Finn pulled into pit lane for a routine pit stop on lap 33.
