Lewis Hamilton has Ferrari move dismissed with Leclerc ‘problem’ outlined

Lewis Hamilton would face the same struggles as Charles Leclerc if he ever decided to sign for Ferrari according to Peter Windsor as the veteran Formula 1 journalist warned against a move to the Scuderia. The seven-time world champion is out of contract with Mercedes at the end of the season so speculation over his future has been rife.

Hamilton’s future is currently one of the big talking points in Formula 1 with Mercedes on track struggles giving rise to suggestions that he could look for a way out. The 38-year-old would be free to leave Mercedes at the end of the year when his contract expires, and while the expectation is that he will extend his stay, the door is open for other teams to make a play for his services.

Ferrari have been mooted as a potential destination with the appeal of racing for the Scuderia tempting for any driver. However, the team have their own problems and the SF-19 is arguably slower than the W14 in race trim. Charles Leclerc has found things particularly hard at times and crashed twice during the Miami Grand Prix weekend.

Now, Windsor has had his say, suggesting Hamilton would just suffer the same problems as the Monegasque if he ended up driving for Ferrari.

“I think he will find it as difficult as Charles finds it,” Windsor said on his YouTube channel. “Of course, if Lewis went to Ferrari, there will be a lot of ‘Here comes the great Lewis’ or ‘Lewis coming to Maranello’ and Lewis, who keeps his racing and life pretty simple would say, ‘You know, give me the race car and let [me] do some driving’.

“But I think he would have the same problems. I don’t think he will have any solution to Charles’s problem nor Max for that matter.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Hamilton will leave Mercedes but it looks increasingly likely he will extend his stay with few other options on the table. That may annoy pundit Eddie Jordan who wants him to try a new challenge.

“My only concern is that Lewis has to find something else in his mojo now,” Jordan, told the Formula For Success podcast. “And he needs to get out of there! He needs to move on!

“Just like he did when he was with McLaren. Get out of Mercedes, Lewis. It’s time you reinvented yourself somewhere else.”
