Lewis Hamilton responds to if he’s the F1 GOAT over Michael Schumacher
Lewis Hamilton has refused to be drawn on suggestions that he is the greatest Formula One driver by stating he prefers to do his talking on the track. Statistically speaking the Brit is the most successful driver ever, narrowly ahead of Michael Schumacher, and the debate has naturally been rife about which of the two was the better driver.
Hamilton’s statistics within Formula One speak for themselves. The 37-year-old has won 103 races, more than anyone in the sport’s history. He is tied with Schumacher for the number of world titles won, with both men claiming seven. He also holds the record for most pole positions, most podium finishes and most laps led.
These numbers mean on paper he is the best of all time – but there is still intense debate surrounding the GOAT status given Hamilton has had the opportunity to participate in more Grands Prix than his predecessors. The likes of Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and Jim Clark are regularly compared to the Mercedes man with a general consensus on who is the best yet to truly break out.
Now, Hamilton has responded to the debate by suggesting that he prefers to do his talking on track – rather than be drawn into questions about who is the best. The 37-year-old insisted he has always been that way, taking the lead from his Dad, Anthony.

Another record Hamilton has set is the most consecutive seasons within the sport with at least one race win. The number currently stands at 15, stretching all the way back to his debut year for McLaren in 2007. However, he is at serious risk of the run coming to an end with no Grand Prix victories yet this season and just three events left to go.
The Formula One GOAT debate is likely to rumble on for an eternity but it is interesting to note that Hamilton does not seem to be too drawn in by it at the current stage of his career.
